A note from the editor

Patrick Layton, Impact’s President of Managed IT, led a team meeting in October that brought together the Impact Managed IT and DOT Security teams. This wasn’t a typical check-in, though. The biannual meeting served as a powerful reminder that change is essential for growth.

Staff from DOT Security, a managed security service provider (MSSP), was in attendance as a cybersecurity partner that works side-by-side with the teams at Impact.

Leaders outlined plans to implement advanced systems like new professional services automation (PSA) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms, aligning with Impact’s evolution from a small business service provider to one of the top MSPs in the country tackling digital transformation, AI, and more.

Here’s what resonated most:

  • Clarity drives progress: Explaining the “why” behind organizational shifts inspires alignment and focus.
  • Culture is key: These gatherings foster camaraderie, reignite passion, and reinforce shared values.
  • Balance fuels success: Working hard is essential, but celebrating together builds the energy to keep innovating and striving for constant improvement.

This meeting wasn’t just about logistics—it was a launchpad for the next stage of Impact’s journey, proving that transformation is as much about people as it is about systems.

Last Thursday I had the honor of hosting a team meeting specific to the Managed IT and DOT Security teams. We do this twice a year and invite most of the staff from all locations to Illinois for a day of status updates, roadmap review, partner presentations, and live Q&A with our CEO, Frank Cucco. These meetings are meant to be fun and drive the culture and values that Impact is known for.

This particular meeting was a little different as the focus was around change and why it’s good for everyone. I, along with many of our leaders, spoke about how we are embarking on a major reorganization of our service delivery teams and methodology. We are implementing a new PSA, new ERP, and building those systems to support our new models.

Why are we doing this? Because the things we did to grow from a startup that services small businesses are not the things we need to do to provide world class service to the mid-market and enterprise space. As a business matures, its needs change; we are no different. Impact started 25 years ago as an imaging company. In my ten years here, we have transitioned to being one of the top MSPs in the country.

What will we do over the next ten years? We will continue to evolve, innovate, and bring new solutions to the marketplace with the idea that we want to help business use technology for gain. It is no longer just about providing IT and/or security services. It’s about digital transformation, AI, and consultative services that bring real value to our partners.

As I reflect on this day, a few things come to mind that I want to share:

- Keeping your teams informed of what the company’s/team’s roadmap looks like, and more importantly, providing the WHY behind it is critical to our collective success. How can you get everyone rowing the boat in the same direction if they don’t know where they are going or why they are on the journey?

- Meetings like this build culture and camaraderie, and help remind your teammates why we all grind so hard day to day.

- You must let loose and have some fun!

I work for one of the best companies on the planet and am proud to call Impact my home!
